Print Room Etiquette
  • Remember to appropriately size images and select the appropriate resolution when creating you documents to be printed. This will give you the file size appropriate for the output thus reducing printing and plotting time.
  • Please be patient with plotting and printing during the semester.
  • Please monitor you submissions to the plotters – if they jam promptly delete, resize submission and resubmit. Do not leave things “overnight”. Each studio has one student to delete a job in the queue but this student may not be available.
  • Please help keep the print room clean.
  • Report any hardware or software problems to the IT staff via email and cc your studio faculty professor.

Scanning Paper

  • log onto print room machine and run the CISW shortcut on the desktop
  • load your drawing face down lined up with the zero on the marked scale by sliding it up against the rollers, the scanner will grab and position the drawing.
  • Put the filename in at the top of the CISW window (example "C:\scans\drawing.jpg")
  • Read the size off of the marked scale on the scanner and input it into the scan width box.
  • Set image quality and file type at the bottom left area of the CISW window (Jpeg, Mode GR and 150-200 DPI are standard)
  • Click Scan, the image is saved as the file is scanned.

Advanced Operations
Mode:
The scanner has 3 modes of operation which produce different results
GR- Graytone, this is the all around multi purpose scan mode
LI- Line Art, this will ignore smudges and discolorations on the paper and only record the solid lines. Line Art However can not scan shading
DI- Dithered, This is where the scanner reconstructs the drawing using various sized dots, because of this it doesn't make good straight lines but can deliver extremely intricate shading
DPI:
this indicates the number of dots per inch when scanning, the scanner offers up to 600 dpi but to do so would take a long time and create a huge file, for high quality scans 300 is generally adequate, however you can go higher if you wish.
Type:
The scanner supports many file types but the most commonly used will be Jpeg and Tiff, Jepgs are small but sometimes have defects, Tiffs are very large but nearly perfect.
